Aisho Miura Arts is pleased to present first solo exhibition in the gallery, “Hotei and Grapes” by Kyotaro Hakamata.
Hakamata born in Shizuoka (1963) has lived in the USA as art research scholar of Agency for Cultural Affairs, also in China, Tibet, Nepal and currently lives and works in Tokyo. Hakamata had a solo exhibition ”Human, Smoke and Disappearing Form” at Museum of Shizuoka in 2011, and has published a book of works archived from 1987-2011.

Hakamata is one of the leading artist in Japanese contemporary art scene since 1990’s, has been producing works spotted on the matter of structure, replication property of sculpture.

Hakamata talked about his works:
“All of the materials I am using recently including colored acrylic is ready-made. I feel the same way to motifs I use in my works like smoke, human body and house, as if I am just quoting ready-made concepts to my works.”

His creation starts from peeling off the stereotype concept of usual objects. The objects peeled off its concept remains its relic but will be mounted in the work and metamorphosed to a new value of art between the artist and the viewer.

Hakamata’s work releases our generally accepted notion between art and daily life and make the viewer to consider the work more actively.

In this exhibition “ Butai and grape”, common objects like a grape squashed by ready-made bronze sculpture and wood table, the book unable to read is unsteadily keeping oblique and appearing in front of us.
There will be an opening reception with the artist in attendance on 6/9(Sat) from 18:00.


この度アイショウミウラアーツでは袴田京太朗のギャラリー初の個展"布袋と葡萄"を開催致します。

袴田は1963年静岡生まれ、武蔵野美術大学造形学部彫刻学科卒業後、文化庁芸術家在外研究員として渡米、その後も中国、チベット、ネパールなどに滞在し、現在東京を中心に制作活動を続けています。2011年に静岡市立美術館にて個展「人と煙と消えるかたち」を開催、同年自身初となる1987年-2011年までの作品を納めた作品集を刊行しました。

袴田は1990年代以降の日本の現代美術シーンを代表するアーティストの１人で、これまで"彫刻"という概念に通呈する構造や複製性の問題に焦点をあてた作品を発表して来ました。

袴田は自身の作品について以下のように語ります。
「近年使用しているアクリル板を含むすべて素材は既製品です。作品のモチーフとしている人や煙や家なども素材と同様に既成の概念を引用しているという感覚が強くあります。」

日常で手に入れることの出来る既成品や既成概念の主題を剥がすことから袴田の制作ははじまります。主題を剥がされたそれらは組み込まれる作品の中で過去の面影を残しながら、作り手と見る者の間で新しい価値へと変容していきます。

袴田の作品はアートと日常にある通念化された解釈を解放し、よりアクティブな考察を見る者に求めます。

この度の展覧会"布袋と葡萄"では既存のブロンズ彫刻や木につぶされる葡萄、読めない本などよく目にする素材が不安定な傾きを持ちながら我々の前に現れます。6月9日(土)には作家を囲んでのオープニングレセプションを開催致します。この機会に是非ご高覧ください。
